Most Las Vegas attention is on the “Strip”…the section of Las Vegas Blvd where the mega-hotel casinos reside along with the night clubs and frantic weekend pools. But many visitors yearn for another, less frantic Las Vegas experience…especially frequent, slightly older…or married visitors.
A “hidden gem” hotel/casino is the Red Rock Hotel and Casino about 9 miles west of the strip on the edge of the city, at Charleston Blvd. and the 215 Throughway which circles the city of Las Vegas. The Red Rock is new in ambiance (though it has been in business for about 5 years), the casino is not smoke filled or smelly, and the rooms are highly reputed as beautiful and comfortable. With reservations the hotel will shuttle you from and to McCarran (LAS) airport a trip of about 15 minutes, and providing a view of the valley in which Las Vegas sits that few experience.
During warm months check for entertainment at the Red Rock as they often have first class concerts, some at the pool (photo above) and others at their outdoor venue under the high desert stars.
If you are of an active sort we can highly recommend a visit to the Red Rock Canyon Preserve abut 5 miles west of the resort. There is a welcome center, and
many hiking trails of all degrees of difficulty from “not” to “very”, some places to rock climb, a beautiful drive of about 13 miles. This is a beautiful place and well worth a visit.
The “in-house” food at ALL the restaurants at the Red Rock Hotel & Casino is excellent even…especially…the buffet.
The Red Rock web site lists all the restaurants where you will not go wrong, and there is a food court for those of a mind, with good franchises to suit all tastes. As west side residents we dine and play there regularly with no
complaints (except we don’t win every time). If you rent a car (recommended for longer stays) there are many excellent restaurants in the Las Vegas west side neighborhood within 2-3 miles and little traffic out this far.
Mostly you will be impressed with the high quality of everything in this “hidden gem”. We have had many weekend guests rave about this casino, hotel resort and spa. A visit here compares to getaways in Tucson, Scottsdale, or Sedona with the option of “Sin City” and all the entertainment and restaurant options when you want them. One of the biggest assets of Las Vegas is its easy accessibility from everywhere by a plethora (lots) of airlines serving the area.
