The Carmel Valley Ranch Resort…  in Central Coastal California… has recently completed a $35 million “green” makeover.

The CVRR was originally built in the mid “80’s with a hotel… golf course… tennis club… and residential out-buildings.   Now there are two outdoor saline pools…  one family and one a quiet respite for adults… and 139 luxury guest suites.

Newly landscaped areas have been renovated to include native and drought-tolerant plants… using very low-flow irrigation.  Reclaimed water is from the facilities’ waste-water reclamation system.  There is a new green roof over the remodeled spa …which is a re-used structure.  Instead of tearing it down and re-building.  Architects Paul Davis Partnership, who designed the remodel, started back in 2005, and the owners were very concerned with not expanding the land footprint of the resort by re-using existing structures.

The Oak tree wooded site has changed hands twice since then and now is owned by Geolo Capitol, but “green” changes were not lost or ended with new ownership…happy to say.  The Carmel Valley Ranch Resort is now a luxury destination-resort that has been designed to be  Eco-aware of the health of its surroundings in the central Coastal California region.

One can play 18 holes of world-class golf, walk hundreds of miles of hiking trails… roam around an organic garden … learn about honey bees in an apiary … explore the intricacies of wine making and grape growing… enjoy yoga on a mountain top… and then relax by your choice of pool …all within walking distance of your suite.

The actual Carmel Valley area extends from Carmel-by-the-Sea (previous Mayor: Clint Eastwood, and famous for Pebble Beach Golf Course) east to the heart of the Santa Lucia Mountains. At the inland location of the Carmel Valley Ranch the climate tends to be a lot warmer… sunnier …and less foggy than the coast. This is the same reason the area is such a premier wine growing region—in fact, Monterey County has one of the largest collections of premium vines around. The location is only an hour from Silicon Valley.

Thanks for the info! I’ve been looking into CA luxury resorts and Post Ranch Inn is my favorite so far — the views seem amazing.
