On nearly every travelers Bucket List is Venice, Italy. Truly one of the most unique cities of the world, and one of the most romantic to western tastes. Just visiting Venice is a luxury experience.
We are highlighting a Venice luxury stay that offers service even beyond what one expects for one of the friendliest countries in Europe. The Londra Palace Hotel fronts on the famous Venetian Lagoon. Palladio’s 16th-century San Giorgio Maggiore Church stands directly opposite. The Hotel is a few steps from St. Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.
This impressive neo-Gothic, 53 room palace shimmers as it reflects in the waters of Venice’s Lagoon as it has for over 150 years. The Londra Palace Hotel has an unbeatable location on Riva degli Schiavoni, and includes a gourmet restaurant and rooms with Venice Lagoon views.
The architect of Versace‘s boutiques, Rocco Magnoli, oversaw the hotel’s extensive renovation in 1999. The lobby features ornamental columns and a mix of traditional and contemporary Venetian glass.
Guest-rooms feature lofty ceilings, city or lagoon views, silk-covered walls, brocaded fabrics, gilt-framed original oils, and come with a minibar and satellite TV. Some have views of St. Mark’s Basin and St. George Island.
The hotel is home to the acclaimed Ristorante Do Leoni, offering Venetian cuisine, seasonal alfresco dining, and views of gondolas. The restaurant is the pride of the Londra Palace, and outside guests are also welcome…it should not be missed.
Do Leoni’s cuisine and atmosphere make the restaurant a destination for gourmets from all over the world. The Chef, Loris Indri, combines the traditions of classic Venetian fare with more elaborate dishes that delight even the most refined palates. The wine and champagne list also offers a rich selection of prestigious labels.
Interestingly Tchaikovsky wrote his fourth symphony during a stay at Londra Palace Hotel in 1877.
The original core building dates to 1853. It was called the Hotel d’Angleterre & Pension, and later the Londres. In 1865 the Beau Rivage was built in ‘neolombardesque’ style, connected to the Hotel d’Angleterre by an adjoining structure. The hotel’s present appearance is the result of the roof being raised during the 1950s and the more recent renovations of the façade and internal public areas. It was given the name ‘Londra Palace’ in the seventies.
Venice, an ancient city, originally a powerful City-State, encompasses 117 islands connected to each other by 150 canals and 400 bridges. Due to its unique urban layout and huge artistic patrimony, it has been declared a Unesco World Heritage site.
Venice offers everything a traveler hopes for: wonderful local residents, stunning vistas, history, shops, food, with lots to do. Italian hospitality and seduction make it a standard of beauty and luxury UN-equalled.
